What is keyword popularity?
Keyword popularity is equal to the number of times people used it in search engines within the last month. Overture popularity estimations come from its advertising network.
Please note that you can’t get popularity for any month other than the last one, However if you check and store popularity once a month for a few months, you will be able to create your own statistics of seasonal popularity and demand fluctuations.
Overture Keyword Selector sometimes gives incorrect popularity estimations, especially for plural forms of keywords (’windows’ popularity estimation is always equal to zero); for keywords whose combinations with other words and phrases are more popular than popularity of the initial keywords (’test’ popularity estimation is always equal to zero, because ‘iq test’, ‘pregnancy test’ are much more popular keywords than ‘test’ itself); and for keywords related to Internet Marketing (webmasters often check positions of their web sites in search engines, which leads to artificially increased popularity estimations).

Popularity
‘Popularity’ is equal to the most recently available Overture Keyword Selector popularity estimation. It doesn’t matter if popularity is outdated, or up-to-date. This value is useful when you organize keyword lists with keywords that have popularity estimations measured in the different months.

Popularity in a given month
It’s better to use the ‘Popularity in a Given Month’ value if you want to monitor seasonal popularity fluctuations.
‘Popularity in a Given Month’ allows you to view popularity measured in any given month.
Please note that you can’t get popularity for any month other than the last one, therefore you should add a column with the last month’s popularity in the last month in order to view the current popularity estimation measured today.
