How to Inteprete ‘Searches’ Data:
This figure tells you how many times a keyword was searched on.
The higher the number of ‘Searches’, the better.
This data is useful when determining the ‘popularity’ of a keyword e.g. fishing
If no results are returned for a keyword, this means the keyword in question was not searched on last month.
However, there may be instances where Overture returns no results for a keyword.
For example, a query for “fishingrod” will result in zero searches, according to Overture.

The reason for this is because Overture combines search data for variations of a keyword, including: Spacing, upper and lower case & plurals.
So a query for “fishingrod” would include searches made for:
“fishing rod”
“fishing rods”
“Fishing Rod”
“Fishing rod”
“fishing Rod”
“Fishing Rods”
“Fishing rods”
“fishing Rods”
Even though Overture returns zero searches for “fishingrod”, a careful glance at ‘More Specific Keywords - Overture’ for “fishingrod” will reveal that the number of searches made for “fishing rods” (i.e. fishing rod with a plural) is 22,965 for the month of May 2005.

This figure would include the number of times “fishing rod” was searched on as well.
