Google Adwords Keyword Tool (GAW Keyword Tool)
TheDowser will automatically enter keywords into the Google AdWords Keyword Tool box, press buttons, extract and save information - like a human user. However, you should not overuse it in order to avoid denial of service. Please enter the minimum delay in seconds between the succeeding requests to Google AdWords Keyword Tool:

Settings >> Automated Use >> Google AdWords Keyword Tool

We recommend you to set the delay to not less than 10 seconds between successful requests.

Keyword Filtering
Here you can set a filter in order to temporarily hide some of your keywords. This kind of filter allows you to enter expression which will be calculated for each keyword in your active keyword list.

Those keywords that don’t fit the condition will be hidden. You can restore the complete keyword list by removing the filter (Filter->None).

Setup Filter

Here you can set a filter in order to temporarily hide some of your keywords. This kind of filter allows you to view the top 10, 100 or any other number of elements, or top 10%, 20% or any other percentage of elements. You can restore the complete keyword list by removing the filter (Filter->None).

Keyword Length
Keyword length is equal to the number of characters in it. It counts all characters including spaces. Short keywords are usually more popular than long keywords, while long keywords have higherconversion rates from visitors to customers.

Keyword List Filtering
You can filter the keywords in the Keyword Management Pane using the filter toolbar in the top right corner of TheDowser window. Enter ‘template’ in order to temporarily hide all keywords that don’t contain the word ‘template’, enter ‘-free’ (minus free) in order to temporarily hide all keywords with the word ‘free’ in them. You can combine filters. For example, you can enter ‘web template -free’ in order to show all keywords that contain the words ‘web’ and ‘template’, but don’t contain the word ‘free’.

Keyword List Management
You can organize your keywords into the tree of lists and sublists (folders and subfolders). Each list (folder) can contain an unlimited number of keywords and sublists. For example, you can create a ‘web template’ list with the ‘flash’ and ‘html’ sublists, then move your keywords to corresponding sublists in order to better organize your keywords.

You can view contents of any list or sublist in the Keyword Management Pane of TheDowser. This pane allows you to sort keywords by their names, length, number of words or popularity. You can add corresponding columns using the ‘Columns’ menu.

Click on any of the column titles in order to sort your keywords, click on this title again in order to change the sorting order. You can easily add or remove columns using the ‘Columns’ menu.

Keyword Meta Tags
TheDowser offers a feature to export keywords in meta tag format.

Keyword Number of Words
Keyword Number of Words is equal to the number of words in a keyword phrase. Typically, keyword phrases of 2 words or less are considered “research keywords” while those that are 3 words or more are considered “buying” keywords.

“Buying” keywords are generally easier to optimize and also produce higher conversion results.

Keyword Popularity
Keyword popularity is equal to the number of times a keyword is queried in Overture’s database. Overture popularity estimations come from its advertising network.

Please note that you can’t get popularity for any month other than the last one, However if you check and store popularity once a month for a few months, you will be able to create your own statistics of seasonal popularity and demand fluctuations.

Overture Keyword Selector sometimes gives incorrect popularity estimations, especially for plural forms of keywords (’windows’ popularity estimation is always equal to zero); for keywords whose combinations with other words and phrases are more popular than popularity of the initial keywords (’test’ popularity estimation is always equal to zero, because ‘iq test’, ‘pregnancy test’ are much more popular keywords than ‘test’ itself); and for keywords related to Internet Marketing (webmasters often check positions of their web sites in search engines, which leads to artificially increased popularity estimations).

Below is the list of the total popularity of all selected keywords, month-by-month.

How to discover keyword popularity?
Select one or more keywords in your keyword list, then click on the ‘Keywords’->’Discover’->’Popularity’->’Overture’ menu item. This menu item shows you the number of keywords that have no up-to-date popularity estimations. For example, if you select 10 keywords, 3 of which already have up-to-date popularity estimations, this menu item will look like ‘Overture [7 keywords]’.

What are more specific keywords?
More specific keywords are keywords from related searches that contain the initial keyword. For example, more specific keywords for ‘web template’ are ‘free web template’, ‘flash web template’, ‘web hosting template’, etc.

Below is the list of the most popular more specific keywords for all keywords you selected in the main list. Drag keywords from this list to the main keyword list or to any folder, click ‘Selected’ or ‘All’ button to run commands for all keywords selected in this list, or for all keywords from this list.

Popularity
‘Popularity’ is equal to the most recently available Overture Keyword Selector popularity estimation. It doesn’t matter if popularity is outdated, or up-to-date. This value is useful when you organize keyword lists with keywords that have popularity estimations measured in the different months.

Popularity in a given month
It’s better to use the ‘Popularity in a Given Month’ value if you want to monitor seasonal popularity fluctuations.
‘Popularity in a Given Month’ allows you to view popularity measured in any given month.

Please note that you can’t get popularity for any month other than the last one, therefore you should add a column with last month’s popularity in order to view the current popularity estimation.

  • Add keywords to multiple keyword lists at once. It’s recommended to research your keywords using a single list, then distribute keywords between the targeted sublists when you get more than 1000 keywords in this list.
  • Delete keywords from multiple keyword lists at once. If you decide that any keyword is not targeted, you can easily remove it from all your keyword lists by running this command, then clicking ‘Select All’ in the tree of keyword lists.
  • Move keywords to the Recycle Bin. If you decide that any of your keywords is garbage, you can move it to the recycle bin, then empty it in order to get rid of this keyword permanently.
  • Combine keywords with the given words. You will definitely love this feature when you need to add product models/versions to the list. For example, you can select ‘motorola’ and ’siemens’ in your keyword list, run this command, enter ‘cell phone’, ‘phone’, ‘mobile’, etc. in order to add ‘motorola cell phone’, ’siemens cell phone’, ‘motorola phone’, ’siemens phone’, etc. to your keyword list.
  • Combine keywords together. This function is similar to the previous one, however keywords will be combined with each other, not with the given words or phrases.
  • Combine words together, separately for each keyword. This feature is useful when you need to permute your keywords. For example, ‘free web template’ will be permuted to ‘web template free’, ‘web free template’, ‘template free web’, ‘free template web’, etc.
  • Combine words together, for all keyword words. This feature is similar to the previous one; however it permutes ALL words from the selected keywords.
  • Create new lists using keywords as list names. It’s a great feature that allows you to easily organize your keywords. For example, you can select the ‘web template’ keyword, then select this function in order to create a new list named ‘web template’ and automatically copy ‘web template’ to it.
  • Create new sublists using keywords as list names. This feature is similar to the previous one; however it creates sublists, not lists on the same level in the tree of keyword lists.

  • Export keywords in various formats: text, html, comma-separated list, automatically generated ‘keywords’ meta tag and Google AdWords keyword lists (broad match, phrase match and exact match).
  • Export your keyword list with visible columns in various formats: tab-separated list, HTML table, comma-separated values.
  • Print your keyword list.
  • Open your keyword list in your web browser.

Edit Keywords
Edit keywords in the left window, then click ‘OK’ button.
Please note that in fact you don’t actually edit keywords - you replace old keywords with the new keywords. For example, if you enter ‘web template’ instead of ‘web hosting’ you will remove ‘web hosting’ from your active keyword list, and add the ‘web template’ keyword to it.

You can’t remove any of the keywords from Dowser file (Dowser database), because these keywords may be used by another keywords (for example, if ‘free web hosting’ is more specific keyword to ‘web hosting’, by completely deleting ‘free web hosting’ you lose important information about keyword relationships).

TheDowser’s keyword database is static - it means that you will not lose any information associated with the keyword even if you delete it from all of your keyword lists. You can restore this information by adding this keyword to one of your keyword lists again.

You can combine your keywords with any words. This tool is especially useful when you need to enter product names with models/versions/company names. For example, you can select ‘motorola’ in your keyword list, then enter ‘T190′, ‘T191′, ‘T200′, etc. into the left list. ‘motorola T190′, ‘motorola T191′, ‘motorola T200′ will be added to your keyword list.
